The Opportunity Next Question Bank: A User Guide for Students

Maddy Woodle

The Opportunity Next Question Bank is a free online tool that takes the guesswork out of questions to ask your support system as you explore your education and career goals. Visit the Question Bank to ask meaningful questions, become better informed, and grow confident in your next steps.

Talking to others can be helpful when planning your next steps in your education and career. Family members, teachers, counselors, coaches, professionals, college alumni, and friends all have unique viewpoints that can help you map your goals — but knowing what to ask isn’t always easy. The Opportunity Next Question Bank takes the guesswork out of these conversations, giving you the confidence to ask meaningful questions that can lead to new ideas and clarity.

The Power of Asking Questions

Questions are how we learn and connect with people. Asking meaningful questions can help you:

  • Unlock self-discovery: Discover new possibilities and get closer to identifying your wants, needs, and purpose.
  • Build trusting relationships: Connect with others, expand your community, and discover opportunities.
  • Save time: Find the information you need to make real-time informed decisions.

A meaningful question is tailored to your interests, goals, and who you are engaging. If you’re interested in learning about a career in healthcare, the questions you ask may differ depending on who you speak with. The Question Bank helps you prepare for conversations by filtering on topics, who you’re speaking with, and career interests. This way, you can make the most of your time together.

When to Use the Question Bank

You can use the Question Bank in a number of scenarios, including:

  • Starting a conversation with your family about your future.
  • Discussing education and financial aid options with your counselor or teacher.
  • Connecting with college alumni who are eager to share their personal experiences.
  • Exploring a career path with industry professionals who have experience in a field that interests you.
  • Chatting with a near-peer or colleagues to learn how they landed their position.

Use the Question Bank to Prepare for Coaching Sessions

If you are a Colorado Class of 2024 high school graduate, you can use the Question Bank to find topics to cover during your Opportunity Next coaching sessions.

For example, you might feel overwhelmed about paying for your education. Using the Question Bank, you can filter for “money management” and “education and career coach” to find ready-made questions including “How can I access financial aid and scholarships for technical colleges, registered apprenticeships, and short-term training programs?” Your coach can then partner with you to come up with a personalized game plan to get more information about financial aid or scholarship options. Your coach might not always have all the answers, but they can help you come up with a plan to find the information you need to make informed decisions.
